Welcome!
At the time I'm writing (September 2018), I am leaving HAP to go work as a full time instructional designer. This website is still a work in progress, and I have some great colleagues who are continuing to produce content.
The English lessons are interactive e-learning modules. Just click on a picture to access them. Each lesson contains a vocabulary introduction, reading, and interactive practice and / or assessment activity. I am working to update each lesson with a printable .PDF to go along with each e-learning module, which contains the reading text and a worksheet or two.
These English lessons are designed for adult ESL students at a CASAS test level between 180 and 200. However, I have used these lessons with students higher and lower than that, and had some success. Lower level students, in particular, will get something from them, because there are so many images, sounds, and videos for them to relate to.
These lessons do not explicitly teach structural aspects of English, such as grammar. Rather, they teach language and cultural competencies for surviving and thriving in mainstream American culture. I want students to learn skills that they can immediately apply to their daily lives: finding employment, housing, and health care, for example.
Most of my students are seniors with little technology experience, so I've designed these modules with that in mind. I've tried to make them as clear and intuitive as possible to navigate. In my classroom, we use Android tablets, but desktop computers, laptops, iPads, and even smartphones should work, at least for many of the lessons.
I hope these lessons are fun and educational for your students!
